Google Engineer Builds Futuristic Smart Mirror for Your Bathroom
There are a few "smart mirrors" on the market, but they're not particularly advanced, and Google engineer Max Braun was unsatisfied with what they had to offer. So decided to take matters into his own hands, and create a mirror that could tell him what to wear in the morning, what time it is, and even when it's his friends' birthdays.

In order to create the mirror, he used a two-way mirror, a display panel, a controller board, and some arts and crafts supplies, as well as a few smaller components like a push button momentary switch. After a great deal of experimentation, he has a prototype, and it looks like the future we've been dreaming of since Minority Report.

Opening quote
"I realized that I wanted my ordinary bathroom mirror to be more like the future we were promised in the movies," he wrote in Medium.

The display itself is only a couple of millimeters thick, so it can easily fit between the panels of a two-way mirror, giving it a completely seamless appearance.

It's still a work-in-progress and somewhat DIY, so it's not as sophisticated as it could be. Here's a look at the electronics it takes to make this work, which Braun claims will get simpler once he's tinkered more with the coding:

As it stands now, the mirror can tell the time, the weather forecast, and some recent news headlines, but the technology can potentially work with any app that has a Google Now card, including birthday reminders, event reminders, traffic, public alerts, and even "what to watch." Google Now has often been compared to Siri, so it's easy to imagine with more funding and research, that we could have a personal assistant in our mirror when we're getting ready in the morning.
