New Star Chart App Is the First Virtual Reality Planetarium
There are several star chart apps on the market with augmented reality, including the Star Chart app from Escapist Games. But now, Star Chart has taken the next step to full-on virtual reality, and is putting a planetarium right on your phone.

The augmented reality version of the Star Chart app allows users to point their phones at the sky and identify which planets, stars, constellations, etc are in their field of vision. But the VR version goes a step further, and allows you to explore the solar system in a gorgeous and scientifically accurate simulation of our nearby universe. The VR planetarium includes our solar system, including the Sun, planets, and major moons, as well as 88 constellations and a real-time view of which planets and stars are visible in the night sky.

Opening quote
"You can finally let your inner child's astronaut loose to explore space, the night sky and our solar system in detail," Escapist Games said in a statement (via Space.com). "From the tiny moons of Mars to the farthest reaches of the Pluto system, from constellations and stars to looking down on Earth, you'll get a perspective on the size and scale of the universe you've never had before - you'll actually be there!"
Closing quote

Star Chart currently has 20 million users for the free augmented reality app, while the VR app will cost $5 on iTunes when it is soon made available for Apple products. You can now buy it on Gear VR and Google Play.
