China's "Intelligent" Security Robot Will Tase You If You Fall Out of Line
China has just unveiled a riot control robot named AnBot, which is intended to control riots using an electric shock weapon. The initial report calls AnBot the "first robot boasting both security capabilities and intelligence skills," which doesn't sound like the beginning of the robopocalypse at all.

AnBot can be controlled remotely or deployed autonomously, and while details are somewhat sparing, it will reportedly "patrol autonomously" and "protect against violence and unrest" using its "electrically charged riot control tool." Luckily, it seems that the tool itself, which pretty much just sounds like a taser, can only be deployed remotely by the robot's human personnel, so at least the bot can't decide it wants to shock you just because you get a little too close.

The robot is capable of eight hours of work before it has to recharge, and also has an SOS button so people can quickly call for help in an emergency. And it's unclear how much "intelligence" this robot actually has, but I still wouldn't want this Dalek-like robot autonomously patrolling the streets.
