New Trailer for "Hidden Figures" Celebrates the Unsung Heroes of the Space Race
A new trailer for NASA biopic Hidden Figures has dropped, and it looks like one of the best movies of the fall season:

Hidden Figures tells the little-known story of mathematics genius Katherine Johnson and her other black female colleagues who served as human "computers," crunching the numbers for the missions of the early space program and ensuring that NASA caught up to other countries in the space race. It stars Taraji P. Henson as Johnson, as well as Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae as mathematician Dorothy Vaughan and aerospace engineer Mary Jackson. Kirsten Dunst, Kevin Costner, Mahershala Ali, and Jim Parsons round out the all-star cast.

From everything we've seen so far, it looks like a well-written, socially conscious movie with amazing performances, which is probably why it's getting an Oscar-qualifying release in December before its wide release early next year, American Sniper-style. The shot of a Costner, a white man, knocking down the "colored" bathroom sign left a bad "white savior" taste in my mouth, but other than that, this trailer makes me incredibly excited for the movie.

Hidden Figures comes out in theaters on January 13, 2017.
