New "Hidden Figures" Trailer Shows Us the Brains Behind the Space Race
The space race captured America's imaginations when John Glenn went into low-Earth orbit for the first time, and now, Hidden Figures is here to tell us the untold stories of the brains of the operation: black female "human computers" who were instrumental in getting humans into space.

This movie looks better with every trailer, and although it has some of the markers of typical awards fare, it's a more important film than your average Oscar bait. Especially after the results of the presidential election, this movie is exactly the kind of movie we should be seeing more of in Hollywood. As star Taraji P. Henson told Slashfilm, movies like Hidden Figures can have a very positive impact:

Opening quote
If I had known about these women coming up, maybe I would have aspired to be a rocket scientist. Not to say that I have a bad journey, but what I'm saying is that nowadays, this is all kids of color feel like they have. Sports. Rap. Acting. And there's so much more important work to be done. And to be a part of a project that will give children like me, where I grew up, hope, to dream a different dream, that is - I can't even quite put it into words, it really feels surreal right now.
Closing quote

Hidden Figures comes out in limited theaters on December 25 and will be released nationwide on January 6.
