Hardcore Batman Fans Created A Fully Functional Bat-Grappling Hook!
Batman is simultaneously the most badass superhero of all time and the easiest target for jokes in the whole DC universe (aside from his stupid, stupid villains). Why? Because he's just some rich guy in a rubber suit with no superpowers. "Money isn't a superpower!" comic book fans say, laughing while they stamp on Batman's parents' graves. But Batman has the best comeback of all: awesome gadgets. The Batarang, Batmobile, Batwing, and Batsuit are eighty times cooler than Superman's inside-out red underwear or anything the Green Lantern can dream up. But one device in particular has captured fans' imaginations for years: the grappling hook.

It's what allows Batman to scale buildings, zoom out of danger, and even save the life of his most hated, annoying enemy. It turns Batman into a threat that can come from any angle and showcases his ninja infiltration skills. Now the frighteningly well-equipped Bat-scientists over at the Hacksmith have made a fully functional version almost from scratch:

Everyone thinks two things while watching this video. First is an internal imitation of Obadiah Stane from Iron Man: "The Hacksmith built this thing in a cave....with a box of scraps!" We did that too, and it was hilarious. Second is "Yeah, that's cool, but can it pull you up the building like the real Batman grappling hook?" Well, make sure you watch to the end to see the Hacksmith's prototype power winch, which does exactly that. It's amazingly compact and powerful, though not as small as the ones in the movie. Still, it's incredibly impressive.

This isn't the first Batman-themed gadget the Hacksmith has tackled either—they've got a rappelling hook, real Batarangs, and even a zipline that uses the grappling hook. The anti-shark spray is still in R&D, we're hoping. Check out their channel for more!
