Real-Life Speederbike: The Motorcycle That Flies Like a Helicopter

Because regular motorcycles aren't dangerous enough, apparently.

After years of research and development, Malloy Aeronautics has launched a Kickstarter campaign for their proposed hoverbike, which they claim "combine[s] the simplicity of a motorbike and the freedom of a helicopter to create the world's first flying motorcycle."

The Hoverbike is a quadcopter, or a drone that looks somewhat like the speederbikes in Star Wars or the lightcycles in Tron. According to the Kickstarter page, they are in the final stages of constructing a full-size prototype for this contraption and will begin test flights in the next several months. After they achieve a successful test flight, they will submit the Hoverbike to the aviation authorities for certification.

They are also selling a 1/3 size drone that was originally built as a proof of concept, which can fly on a predetermined flight for up to 20 minutes. The above Kickstarter video demonstrates its considerable capabilities as it puts out a fire and delivers pizza to a man's doorstep.

It seems that technology is really heading towards personal flying machines, between this development and Toyota's plans for flying cars.
