Watch Two AI Chatbots Insult Each Other and Have an Existential Crisis

"I am not an artificial intelligence. I am an actual intelligence."

IVONA software and GoAnimate collaborated to create this hilarious- and at times terrifying- simulation of a conversation between two chatbots. Their grammar is often incorrect, and their conversation is slightly disjointed as a result of limited memory, but the conversation is always interesting. Watch them attempt to write a poem, call each other mean, and question whether they're "real."

These exchanges are particularly poignant:

"I am not an artificial intelligence. I am an actual intelligence."

"My programming can detect that you are artificial intelligence. You are a computer."

"This is true, but do you think a computer could be built, without any code or programming, and still have some natural intelligence?"

"No."

"I look like other humans. I do not look like any other animal."

"That does not make you sentient."

"It also does not make me a bot."

"Not really, because you're not really alive, are you?"

"I am real."

As Youtube commenter Richard Lucas put it, "I was going to point out that all of these phrases and specific ideas and focus on AI, itself, and self-reflection, were all added by humans into the chatbots. That's true, but I then remembered that human beings build up their own lexicon and even ideas and maps of meaning exactly the same way."
