NASA Records the Sounds of Space
As the 1979 classic Alien famously put it, "In space, no one can hear you scream." And while it's true that sound can't be heard by the human ear under normal circumstances, sound still exists in the vacuum of space, and NASA has found a way to record it.
Sound exists in space as electromagnetic vibrations, or interactions of electromagnetic particles from the magnetosphere, ionosphere, and Solar Wind. NASA recorded these vibrations within the range of human hearing by using plasma wave antennae. Watch the video above to hear the sounds that are constantly emitted from our solar system.
