Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headsets Will Be Available to Buy in 2016
Oculus Rift has been showing off its virtual reality technology in wonderful and geeky ways recently, between creating a real-life holodeck and allowing San Diego Comic Con to hunt mutants like Professor X, but they've been frustratingly reticent about a timeline for consumer usage of their groundbreaking virtual reality goggles. Now, they've finally announced an official timeline for their goggles' commercial availability, and we'll all be able to buy Oculus Rift VR goggles starting next year.

"Since the earliest days of the Oculus Kickstarter, the Rift has been shaped by gamers, backers, developers, and enthusiasts around the world," Oculus Rift wrote on their blog. "It's a system designed by a team of extremely passionate gamers, developers, and engineers to reimagine what gaming can be."

According to the blog post, Oculus Rift will be moving forward with their Crescent Bay prototype, which they claim has an "improved tracking system that supports both seated and standing experiences, as well as a highly refined industrial design, and updated ergonomics for a more natural fit."

The goggles will be available to pre-order starting later this year, with shipments to consumers scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2016.
