Watch Stephen Colbert Make Fun of Neil deGrasse Tyson for Not Liking Pluto
Pluto has always had a special place in our hearts, mostly because it's a classic scrappy underdog, but its popularity is at a fever pitch in the afterglow of New Horizons's historic flyby and the POTUS-approved first detailed pictures of Pluto and its moon system. With all the scientific buzz today, Neil deGrasse Tyson is in high demand, but he still had time to answer the "Neil signal" for his friend Stephen Colbert, who proceeded to viciously make fun of the astrophysicist for his lack of appreciation for the popular dwarf planet:

In the video, Colbert is openly blown away by the pictures of Pluto, while Tyson is less impressed. The astrophysicist was a vocal proponent of demoting Pluto from a full-fledged planet, with Colbert teasing, "You're in the first line of Pluto's obituary at this point." Colbert confidently asserts that Tyson is "wrong" not to be impressed on an emotional level, saying, "It even has a heart, unlike you."

But even a naysayer like Tyson has to admit that on a scientific level, this mission is groundbreaking. At the end of the day, he says, "we're seeing something we've never seen before." He praises the mission for encouraging space exploration efforts, even as he makes sure to refer to Pluto as an "outer object."

"Outer object," Colbert repeats. "You just dance around saying anything to [prevent] this planet from happening."
