Watch: Techies Cut Open Baby BB-8 to See What's Inside
Ever since BB-8 was first unveiled at Star Wars Celebration, fans have been wondering what makes the adorable droid tick (or roll, to be more accurate). The creators have been tight-lipped about the actual mechanism when discussing the making of BB-8, but many have predicted that the "soccer ball droid" is held upright using a gyroscope and magnets. Now, curious, tech-minded Star Wars fans have taken it upon themselves to destroy everything we love and cut open Sphero's baby BB-8:

Warning: potentially disturbing BB-8 snuff footage follows:

In this video, uBreakiFix cuts open BB-8 to confirm that it is, in fact, held upright by a gyroscope and two wheels held internally. A large counterweight keeps the two wheels in contact with the shell, giving the internal mechanism traction, allowing it to right itself at all times, and then a stem extends upwards from the base and ends with a magnet, which holds BB-8's head in place.

To be fair, they did apologize to BB-8 in the video, and insisted that they're all huge Star Wars fans, but that didn't stop people from having extremely strong reactions in the Youtube comments:

Opening quote
"YOU MONSTERS!!!!!"
"whyyyyy why would you do that you heartless people"
"YOU MURDERED HIM AND DON'T THINK ABOUT COMIN' FOR MY BB-8"
":'( cruel world"
"i feel like im watching TOY STORY, and that toy was crying for his dear life..."
"When AI rules the world they're going to open up every human."
Closing quote

And my personal favorite:

Opening quote
"thats droids cruelty you cruels"
Closing quote

If you had a similarly pronounced reaction, or even if you love BB-8 but accept that we have to do disturbing and morally dubious things for the sake of scientific advancement, you might want to watch this more uplifting video.
