The Government Terrorizes Us with Alien Technology in the First Full-Length X-Files Trailer
< >
At long last, the very first full-length trailer for the X-Files revival series is here, and if you're a mythology buff like me, you won't be disappointed:

The latter half of the trailer is the same as the two-part trailer that aired during Gotham and Minority Report, featuring Walter Skinner being awesome as usual and The Smoking Man making an ominous return in voiceover and a glimpse of a cigarette. But the first part is entirely new, with Joel McHale's conspiracy theorist, or "true believer" as he calls himself, informing us of a multinational government conspiracy. Apparently the government is planning to launch an attack that will be blamed on America's enemies, but will actually be the work of the government machine, armed with the alien technology from that shady secret alliance.

The trailer plays up the social commentary aspect of the show, which we appreciate. The world has changed since the X-Files began in 1993, and since it ended in 2002, right after the 9/11 attacks, sufficient time hadn't passed to address the new type of paranoia that blossomed after that event. If this trailer is any indication, they have all of their post-9/11 bases covered, from drone warfare to the NSA surveillance scandal. We can't wait.

The X-Files miniseries will debut on Fox with a two-night premiere on Sunday, January 24, and Monday, January 25.
