Ellen Page in Talks to Star in Flatliners Remake
< >
A remake of Joel Schumacher's Flatliners has apparently been in the works for a few years now (who knew?), and now Ellen Page is in talks to star. If you liked the movie, this is good news, as Ellen Page is amazing, but if you didn't like it or are weary of reboots, then unfortunately it looks like this is actually happening.

There are definitely too many reboots out there right now, but of all the remakes Hollywood could do, this one probably makes the most sense. While most reboots are completely unnecessary, simply because there's nothing to build on or fix, Flatliners had an intriguing premise with execution that was questionable at best, which makes it a perfect candidate for a revisit.

Flatliners, which starred Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, and Kevin Bacon when they were babies, followed a group of medical students who discover a way to temporarily die and visit the "other side" in order to discover the meaning of life before being resuscitated. This idea has the potential to be very philosophical and thought-provoking, but Schumacher's take on it often descended into silliness.

Luckily, the remake will be directed by Niels Arden Oplev, who helmed the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and has experience with dark, thoughtful material. The script will be penned by Ben Ripley, best known for writing the acclaimed sci-fi thriller Source Code.
