Holy History Batman! Awesome Infographic Charts 75 Years of the Batmobile
< >
The Batmobile first appeared in the Batman comics in 1939, but it wasn't at all the Batmobile we know and love. Referred to simply as "Batman's car," it was a fairly standard red convertible. Since then, it has become arguably the most iconic vehicle in comics, equipped with an endless supply of gadgets and armed with near-invulnerability. Now, Book My Garage has created a fairly comprehensive infographic charting the evolution of everyone's favorite wish fulfillment vehicle:

The 1966 "Cruiser" that appeared in the 60's television series was the first to vaguely resemble the Batmobile we would come to know, featuring the distinctive fins and its signature color. Then, the 1986 "War Machine" was the first to be depicted as a veritable tank, while Tim Burton's sleek and economical design provided a contrast. Since then, Batmobiles have mostly oscillated between those two basic concepts, culminating in Snyder's design for the Batman v Superman Batmobile, which is vaguely a mix between the sleek Burton design and Christopher Nolan's tanklike Tumbler.
