Dino-Riders Movie Possibly in the Works
< >
We may be prophets here at Outer Places because just a month after we floated the idea of a Dino-Riders movie (and how awesome one would be), word comes down the pipeline that just such a movie is now in the preliminary stages of becoming a reality. Harness the power!

The Tracking Board first broke the news that Mattel, who owns the Dino-Riders brand, is exploring the idea of giving the classic 1980s Tyco toy line the big screen treatment. According to the site, Mattel is in talks with production company Solipsist Films, who previously worked on Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, on producing the movie. It seems the toy company is a little jealous of Hasbro's success with Transformers, itself a popular '80s toy line that has found major success at the box office in modern times. Like Transformers, Dino-Riders also had a cartoon and comic book associated with it at the height of its popularity in the '80s, before fading into obscurity in the '90s.

The premise of the cartoon and subsequent toy line was this: In the future, humans have evolved into a race called Valorians, who are at war with an evil race of aliens called Rulons. In an attempt to escape the Rulons, the Valorians accidentally travel back to the time of the dinosaurs, and the Rulons follow them. There, the war continues, and the two races outfit dinosaurs with high-tech weaponry as a new means of warfare. Like we said, awesome.

Who knows if the movie will ever become a reality, but here's some old Dino-Riders commercials to get you pumped up just in case.
