The Punisher Returns to Marvel Comics Ahead of Daredevil Appearance
After Secret Wars, Marvel has completely rebooted their entire comics universe, and it was unknown whether Frank Castle would be headlining his own series in the All-New, All-Different Marvel Universe. But now, Comicbook.com reports that The Punisher is getting his own solo series to tide us over before Jon Bernthal's interpretation of the character on Netflix's Daredevil.

The series will be drawn by longtime Punisher artist Steve Dillon and written by Becky Cloonan, who is best known for being the first female artist to draw for the main Batman title and for writing the recent Gotham Academy. (She's also the only woman writing for a male superhero in the All-New All-Different Marvel Universe.) It will follow Frank as he contends with a drug bust gone terribly wrong, as he discovers that the drug creates unstable super soldiers. When he finds out who's behind the drug, it turns out to be "a figure from Frank's past he thought he left behind years ago."

Cloonan described her version of Frank Castle, which has been characterized by others as similar to the acclaimed Punisher MAX series:

Opening quote
"The Punisher is such a layered character, and he definitely falls waaaay outside of the realm of 'good guy.' He does bad things for good reasons, and we are constantly left wondering if the ends justify the means. (I'm not sure they always do, but that's just part of Frank's charm!) Chances are if the Punisher is coming after you, you've got no one to blame but yourself. If you are a criminal, the Punisher is basically Jason Voorhees."

Apparently she wasn't kidding about Punisher resembling a horror movie villain, as she vehemently claimed that the series is for adults only:

Opening quote
"Straight up: if you are a young child and enjoy Gotham Academy, you probably shouldn't be reading this Punisher run. Hear that kids? Definitely don't read it."
