Chewbacca Arrested While Campaigning for Darth Vader in Ukraine Elections
Everyone's favorite Kashyyyk native was arrested this weekend while campaigning for Darth Vader in the build up to the Ukrainian local elections.
While that sentence may sound odd, it's more real than you think. In the build up to this weekend's Odessa local elections, The Internet Party made headlines by transforming a statue of Stalin into a likeness of the Sith Lord, Darth Vader. Why Darth Vader you ask? Well, that's actually the name of The Internet Party's mayoral candidate. No, trust us, that's really his name.
Darth Alekseyevich Vader spent his time on the campaign trail dressed as the iconic Star Wars villain, blasting out the Imperial March as he handed out flyers. Vader was joined by an unlikely ally over the weekend, a man dressed as a rather ragged looking Chewbacca. Unfortunately for Vader and Chewie, they broke a number of laws by blocking off access to a street. The police the arrived, producing one of the most-bizarre election scenes you are ever likely to witness.
As you would expect from the son of Wookiee Chieftain Attichitcuk, Chewbacca didn't go down easily.
Darth Vader was denied his place on the ballot and Chewbacca was eventually released from custody, but not before he was snapped (in full costume) being tried by officials at an Odessa court.
We've all heard stories about the dangers of falling in with the Dark Side, now it would seem that we have a real life example to drive the message home.
