Updated: Alex Kurtzman is Officially Creating a New Star Trek TV Show!
< >
There has been talk of a potential new Star Trek TV show ever since Roberto Orci moved over to CBS TV Studios and now it looks as though the wait is over for Trek fans, because Deadline has revealed that a new show is officially in the works. Interestingly, it won't be Orci taking the lead on the project, with his fellow Star Trek producer Alex Kurtzman taking the reigns instead.

With CBS reportedly giving the go-ahead for a new Star Trek show, the search is now on to find a writer capable of taking on the challenge of bringing the cult sci-fi property back to the small screen. But, we've waited for 10 years for a new Star Trek episode, so what's the rush? Well, should Kurtzman be able to assemble the project quickly enough, there's a chance it could come to air on CBS next fall, just in time for the 50th anniversary of the original show's September 8th premiere date. Wouldn't that be a nice touch?

Few details have been given regarding the show's place in the current Star Trek continuity, but with Kurtzman's heavy involvement in Star Trek, Star Trek: Into Darkness and the next two titles in the current Star Trek cinematic revival, it will be interesting to see the direction it is taken.

A few more details from the official press release:

Opening quote
The new program will be the first original series developed specifically for U.S. audiences for CBS All Access, a cross-platform streaming service that brings viewers thousands of episodes from CBS's current and past seasons on demand, plus the ability to stream their local CBS Television station live for $5.99 per month. CBS All Access already offers every episode of all previous "Star Trek" television series.
The brand-new "Star Trek" will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.
