Legendary Sculptor Brian Muir Started Work on Star Wars: Rogue One Today
Ok, ok, we know that Star Wars: The Force Awakens hasn't even hit the screens yet, but this is some pretty exciting Star Wars: Rogue One news. Brian Muir, the acclaimed sculptor/production artist, confirmed today that he had commenced work creating practical effects for Gareth Edwards' upcoming Star Wars story, Star Wars: Rogue One.

This is great news for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it's the latest indication that LucasFilm is continuing its push towards a filmmaking style that better balances physical and digital effects, which is something the vast majority of Star Wars fans had requested in the wake of the CGI-heavy Episodes 1-3. But this is also great news because of Muir's place in both filmmaking and Star Wars legend. Muir's career has seen him work on some of the greatest movie franchises of all time, from Indiana Jones to Harry Potter to James Bond, creating iconic pieces of movie history from the pumping heart from Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom to pieces of the Macau casino set in Skyfall.

Muir's work on Star Wars: A New Hope may have gone unnoticed by many, but it's actually the stuff of legend. It was Muir who was responsible for sculpting two of the franchise's most iconic pieces of costume...Darth Vader's helmet and the armor of the now infamous Stormtrooper. Most recently, Muir was responsible for sculpting numerous pieces of Kree technology for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy before renewing his relationship with the Star Wars franchise by working on as yet undisclosed effects for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

It's the involvement of people like Brian Muir that should give everyone hope that this new wave of Star Wars movies can live up to their predecessors' reputation. Here's to hoping we'll be remembering his work in these new movies for years to come.
