Zoom Just Arrived in Central City in Last Night’s Episode of ‘The Flash’, and He’s Absolutely Terrifying
The Flash just seems to get better and better, and last night's episode was no exception. This week, Central City's fastest man alive set up a trap for Zoom using Dr. Light's earth one doppleganger (who also happens to be Barry's ex girlfriend). Though the trap doesn't succeed at first, Zoom does indeed cross the breach and battles with Barry, and he's every bit as formidable as Jay Garrick has said. In fact, Zoom almost ended the Flash once and for all, but received a well placed shot from Dr. Well's speed damper gun just in time. The episode ended on a shocking note, however, with the Flash revealing he might be temporarily paralyzed from the waist down.

Though viewers have been given numerous shots at this season's big bad, this was really the first good look fans have been able to see of Zoom, and he's just as terrifying as the writers and producers of the show claimed he would be. 'Candyman' Tony Todd voicing the character was also an interesting move and really makes Zoom an over the top villain (maybe a bit too over the top?). Nevertheless, last season's big bad was also a speedster, and not many shows could get away with using another big bad with essentially the same skill set as their next main antagonist, yet 'The Flash' is able to pull it off with near perfect precision.

There were definitely more than a few exciting moments in last night's episode, with the revelation that the Earth 2 Green Arrow is actually Oliver Queen's father. It's unknown if this will actually come into play in the story itself, but that's yet another thing that the CW's version of the Green Arrow is 'borrowing' from Batman (Earth 2 Batman is Bruce Wayne's father, who survived the tragedy in Crime Alley when his son didn't).

Could this also be a hint as to the identity of Zoom, however? Is Earth 2 a place where some of the fathers get the powers of their sons' Earth One counterparts? In the comics, Zoom is Hunter Zolomon - but the fact that this version of Zoom seems to have a completely different skill set has had some wondering whether he'll be someone else entirely. Some have guessed that Zoom could be Barry's father, and this would seem to give some amount of credibility to the theory. Yet the season is still young, so there's probably quite a ways to go before fans find out the identity of this year's big bad.

Last night's episode also featured some more adorable moments between Barry and Patty, and it seems like the latter is really becoming a welcome part of the show. Likewise, Barry revealed his secret identity to Linda in order to show her how much he believed in her, but will their be consequences to face in the future because of this?

Of course, the Flash's cast, humor, and story continue to set it apart in the world of comic book TV shows in some really big ways. While it's not perfect, it may very well be the closest any superhero show currently on air gets to it. There could always be certain aspects of 'The Flash' that could be nitpicked, but in the end, it's simply a flipping fantastic show. Catch 'The Flash' next Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on the CW when Gorilla Grodd makes his long anticipated return to the show!
