"Flying Man": Sony Picks Up Vigilante Superhero Short for Full-Length Feature
< >
Sony has picked up the viral vigilante short film, "Flying Man," by animator and special effects artist Marcus Alqueres, to be adapted into a feature film. In the deal, Sony also picked up a spec script for the full-length film by Chris Collins, who worked as a writer on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Wire, and Sons of Anarchy.

"Flying Man," which came out in 2013 and went on to be viewed over 7 million times, follows the exploits of a flying superhero who uses extreme violence to fight criminals, as well as a dirty cop who is afraid of retribution from the vigilante. The short was praised for its premise, special effects, and character development, and was nominated for Best Short Film at the Sitges Film Festival.

The effects, in particular, were praised, as Alqueres previously worked on blockbuster heavy-hitters like 300, Source Code, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. He also worked on the highly underrated Super, which is one of my favorite superhero films. If the full-length Flying Man looks or feels anything like Super, we'll be happy.
