X-Men Apocalypse: Nicholas Hoult Calls Oscar Isaac a "Bad-Ass"
< >
X-Men: Apocalypse will likely rise or fall on the scariness of its villain (it's right there in the title!), but aside from the great casting of Oscar Isaac, Apocalypse isn't off to a great start. Fans weren't too pleased with the underwhelming appearance of the ancient mutant in the first promotional photos, not least as a result of his embarrassing resemblance to cheesy Power Rangers villain Ivan Ooze:

But Apocalypse didn't look nearly as bad in the footage we saw at San Diego Comic Con (which will probably play ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!), so hopefully those images are just flukes. And at the very least, fans of the series will be relieved to know that Nicholas Hoult, who plays Beast, characterizes Isaac's Apocalypse as a "bad-ass":

Opening quote
"First Class was the first time we went back in time with the younger cast. Days of Future Past dealt with time displacement and all that sort of thing, and blended casts. And this one I think is just going to be pretty huge in many ways," Hoult told IGN. "It's set in the '80s. Introducing younger versions of Cyclops and Jean Grey and Storm and those characters so you get a bit of a back story to those guys. And then Apocalypse – Oscar Isaac – turns up and is a badass and it all goes quite extreme."
Closing quote

Although we wouldn't really expect his co-star to say anything else, we'd still believe it. Even if Apocalypse's appearance isn't perfect, Isaac is an amazing actor with one of the hottest careers around right now. We absolutely loved him in Ex Machina, A Most Violent Year, and Inside Llewyn Davis (he's perfect in everything he's in, really), and we're already looking forward to seeing his Poe Dameron in The Force Awakens. According to Hoult, the talented actor brought an "intensity" to the role, even when he was mostly acting on a green screen.

Opening quote
"To be honest with you, the times we were acting in the same scene were often quite distant. So I could sense the presence of him – and he's certainly got a lot of presence, in life – he's a really fun guy to be around. And that character's a tricky one to play, you know, essentially a mutant from an era long ago, awoken in this modern day, very confused about what's been going on around him and decides to do something about it. He certainly brings an intensity to it, in a great way."
