Star Trek Beyond is Getting a Worldwide IMAX Release!
The last 12 months might have been dominated by Star Wars, but come 2016 there's going to be another blockbuster sci-fi franchise making the headlines. On July 22nd 2016, Star Trek Beyond will officially get the franchise's post-JJ Abrams era underway and it has just been announced that the movie has received the significant boost of a worldwide IMAX release.

Opening quote
"Imax provides a one-of-a-kind movie going experience to audiences all over the world," said director Justin Lin. "I am excited to bring the newest journey into the Star Trek universe to its screens."
Closing quote

The third entry into Star Trek's rebooted movie universe sees Simon Pegg (who also stars as Scotty) co-writing the script with Doug Jung, and Pegg has said that the pair set out to make the movie less Star-Trek-y and more like a traditional Western or Heist movie set within the Star Trek universe. It doesn't seem as though that's the best way to get the hard core of Trek fans on board, but it might help 'Beyond' succeed where 'Into Darkness' failed and allow the movie to appeal to a wider audience.

Franchise regulars like Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto will all join Pegg in returning for Star Trek Beyond, while Idris Elba (Luther, Pacific Rim) and Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service) will bolster the talent pool even further.

Expect the first footage from the production to land online early next year (once all this Star Wars stuff has blown over).
