New Luke Cage Casting Hints at Expanded Role for Claire Temple
Jessica Jones has already premiered on Netflix, which means it's already time to get excited for Luke Cage, which is expected to premiere a year from now. We already know a good deal about the stacked cast, which includes Mike Colter's stellar version of the titular character we met in Jessica Jones, Hunger Games star Mahershala Ali as villain Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, and Rosario Dawson returning for a third time as Claire Temple. And now the show has added a new cast member, one who is very connected to an already established character.

Sonia Braga has signed on to play Soledad Temple, the mother of Claire. This suggests that Claire will have a bigger role than what we've seen of her so far since we're getting to meet her family, and we're all for it as we're big fans of her character. Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of Television, said of Braga's casting:

Opening quote
"A character as strong as Claire needs an equally powerful mother, and with Sonia we found the perfect actress to deliver the stellar performance we needed. In Marvel's Luke Cage, fans will now get a chance to see where Claire got the fire we love her for."
Closing quote

We don't know about you, but we can't wait to see where Claire got that fire... along with literally everything else in Luke Cage.
