UPDATED: Rumor: Will Supergirl Cross Over with The Flash?

UPDATE - 12/01/15 10:04 am

Supergirl and Flash producer Greg Berlanti denies the rumors that a crossover episode is already in the works, although he doesn't eliminate the possibility by any means. When asked whether the full-season pick-up included a deal for a Supergirl/Flash crossover, Berlanti told a press screening of the Arrow/Flash crossover episode (via CBR):

With the many, many crossovers between The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow, many hoped that Supergirl would follow suit and incorporate Flarrow into its DC universe. The Flash would be a particularly great candidate for a crossover, as the shows have a similarly lighthearted tone and aesthetic, and all of the shows share creator Greg Berlanti. But since Supergirl is on CBS and The Flash is on The CW, it didn't seem to be a possibility, at least not anytime soon. Now, Bleeding Cool reports that Kara Danvers will meet Barry Allen and the rest of the S.T.A.R. Labs crew later this season.

According to the report, which came out yesterday, the network required Supergirl to plan a crossover with The Flash in order to get an order for the back nine episodes of the season. Originally commissioned for thirteen episodes, the order was increased to twenty today, which gives a little bit of credence to the rumors. It also just makes sense; Supergirl premiered to great ratings but has lost about 50% of its viewership in the last five weeks, and a crossover with an established show would give it a much-needed boost.

Although there's definitely a danger of overdoing the crossovers, we hope this happens. While we can't really imagine the openly silly Supergirl crossing over with a self-serious show like Arrow, Kara and Barry are both adorably dorky, and we would love to see them share the screen. And while Supergirl isn't the greatest show we've ever seen, it's perfectly decent with a charming lead in Melissa Benoist, so it deserves a little more of a shot.

And seriously, look how adorable they are together:
