JJ Abrams Reveals Whether Star Wars: The Force Awakens Has a Post-Credits Scene
Thanks to Marvel, the decision of whether or not to stay seated through 5-10 minutes of credit scrolling has become a major factor in many trips to the theater these days. The prospect of bonus post-credits footage has become a hallmark of the MCU, while other studios have occasionally toyed with the gimmick as well. Thanks to LucasFilm's new ownership, many had expected to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens deploying a Marvel-esque post-credits teaser, especially given that the movie is kicking off the biggest expansion the Star Wars franchise has ever seen.

At a press conference this weekend, JJ Abrams finally revealed whether or not you need to stay seated when the credits roll after Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The answer was a resounding no, as Abrams revealed there would be no mid-credits scene, no post-credits scene and just generally nothing theatrical after the credits role in general.

While the post-credit scene works for Marvel's winding web of a cinematic universe, post-credit scenes can often feel somewhat underwhelming and gimmicky. Star Wars is a movie franchise that has never deployed such a tactic, so for them to start doing so now would not be befitting of its history, and it's for that reason that we're more than a little relieved to hear that when those credits roll, we can rush straight out to start dissecting what just unfolded with our pals.

The release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now just a matter of days away, and when it does hit theaters on December 18th, it's widely thought to be one of the biggest box office smashes of all time. Whether or not it will also be a hit with the fans, remains to be seen.
