Season 2 of Star Wars Rebels Will Finally See Ahsoka Tano Fight Darth Vader
After last night's moving mid-season finale, Star Wars Rebels went on its winter break having given us a much meatier and generally more enjoyable showing compared to its debut season. The introduction of fan-favorite characters from the Clone Wars such as Captain Rex and Hondo have helped inject an air of familiarity into the show, while the deeper exploration of Ezra's Jedi training has given us some much needed Star Wars mysticism. But it was the introduction of Ahsoka Tano and her one-time Jedi master, Darth Vader, that were the real sparks behind the first half of this season. Having been revealed as the Rebel contact known as 'Fulcrum', Ahsoka has been used sparingly on the show, but shot into action two episodes ago, giving us a look at how much stronger she has become since the end of Star Wars: Clone Wars.

Dispatching two Inquisitors with such ease showed us that the Togruta has become an accomplished warrior since she left the Jedi order, but it also served to fuel our desire to see her face-off against her ex-Jedi Master. The question of whether or not Ahsoka and Vader would meet in battle has been at the top of every Star Wars fan's list ever since the pair made their first appearances on the show, but Dave Filoni and the Rebels team have neglected to confirm whether or not that would happen. That is up until now, because the latest edition of Rebels Recon has just confirmed that, when Rebels returns from its Winter break, we'll finally get to see Master and Apprentice do battle.

Towards the end of the video, we're told that directly after the break, Star Wars Rebels will produce an episode that "No Star Wars fan will want to miss", but it seems unlikely that this will be the episode in which Ahsoka and Vader do battle. Why? Because Dave Filoni's words suggest that this will be a season-ending confrontation.

Opening quote
"It's pretty clear what the season is going to come down to. People want a certain confrontation to happen. I don't think you can go a whole season without that confrontation happening..it's just cruel. But yeah, it's everything you hoped and everything you feared, it's the very nature of being a Jedi and confronting the dark side of the Force."
Closing quote

Well, color us intrigued. It certainly sounds like the second half of the season has a lot to offer, but if you're not a fan of video, we've summarized a few of the key things you can look forward to when the show returns next year.

- We will explore how Zeb deals with the emotion of being the last of his species, but it also sounds as though he might not actually be the last living Lasat in the galaxy.
- The second half will dive into Sabine's Mandalorian history and get to see how the Mandalorians are doing in the time of the Empire
- Cham Syndulla, Hera's father and hero of the book 'Lords of the Sith' will make an appearance. The show will visit the Twi'Lek homeworld of Ryloth and see how it is doing under Imperial rule.
- Cham will be one of a number of characters from the Clone Wars to be introduced.
- Filoni says that events in the second season will shake the crew of the Ghost to their core.
