Peter Capaldi Says Next Season of Doctor Who May Be His Last
In the last few episodes of this season of Doctor Who, The Doctor's beloved companion Clara (spoilers!) made the ultimate sacrifice so Jenna Coleman could depart from the show. But will Peter Capaldi's run as the Time Lord end in the near future as well? According to a new interview in The Telegraph, Capaldi is considering ending his run after next season:
Opening quote
"This could be my final year – it's terrifying. I love Doctor Who but it can be quite an insular world and I do want to do other things. There will come a time when this is over. But I knew that when I started. I was thinking about my regeneration scene from the outset. That's my terrible melancholic nature. When you accept the job you know there'll come a day, inevitably, when you'll be saying goodbye."
Closing quote

It would be disappointing if Capaldi ended his tenure as the Doctor after only a few seasons, as he's put a fresh twist on the familiar character. Most critics have enjoyed his performance; Capaldi says he doesn't read reviews of his performance, but some of it gets back to him anyway.

Opening quote
"Some feel good and some feel bad. I always think that if you're Doctor Who, somebody somewhere's going to love you. That's comfort. But if people don't like me there'll be another one along in a minute. It's only Doctor Who – and I say that with the greatest of respect and affection. It's not a life-threatening illness."
Closing quote

His appointment met some criticism based on his age, but he claims this doesn't bother him (nor should it):

Opening quote
"No, because every Doctor should be different from the last one. If you want exclusively young, sexy guys, to me that's not Doctor Who. You want occasional ones like that – but then some other eccentrics."
Closing quote

The Doctor Who Christmas special, "The Husbands of River Song," sees the return of the fan favorite companion and airs on December 25 on BBC.
