We Finally Know Who Rachel McAdams Is Playing in Doctor Strange
We've been wondering who Rachel McAdams is playing in Doctor Strange for months now, and we finally have our answer. Unfortunately, the answer is pretty anticlimactic, as she seems to be a non-superpowered love interest.
Opening quote
"Rachel McAdams plays a fellow surgeon that has a history with Strange and is his sort of lynchpin to his old life, once he steps into the role of a sorcerer," Kevin Feige told EW. "She is someone he connects with at the beginning, and reconnects with, and helps anchor his humanity."

Opening quote
"Rachel McAdams is sort of [Doctor Strange's] contemporary in the modern-day New York world, before and after he goes on this crazy journey," said executive producer Stephen Broussard. "So, she sees him before, she sees him after. She's kind of this audience point of view."
Closing quote

Benedict Cumberbatch all but confirmed that McAdams is a love interest to the Stephen Strange character, if it wasn't obvious already:

Opening quote
"I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say what the interest is," he said. "But if I hit on her more than the Ancient One, put it like that."
Closing quote

From the sounds of it, McAdams is going to be relegated to the thankless "girlfriend" role, similar to Jane Foster and Pepper Potts, continuing Marvel's trend of casting incredibly talented women as one-dimensional love interests. Hopefully there will be another wrinkle to her character that they're just not revealing yet, more akin to Evangeline Lilly's character in Ant-Man, but we're not getting our hopes up.

Doctor Strange hits theaters on November 4, 2016.
