Clive Owen to Star in Dystopian Surveillance Thriller "Anon" from Gattaca Director

Andrew Niccol, the director responsible for dystopian classics Gattaca and The Truman Show, is about to make another sci-fi thriller called Anon, starring Clive Owen.

According to Deadline, the synopsis for the film reads:
Opening quote
[Owen] plays a detective in a world with no privacy, ignorance and anonymity. It is the end of crime. However, when Owen's character stumbles on a young woman who doesn't exist, he discovers it may not be the end of crime but the beginning.
Closing quote

This sounds intriguing, as it seems to comment on and possibly satirize the modern age of social media and the political climate after the NSA surveillance scandal. Niccol's post-Truman Show efforts—which include S1m0ne, In Time, and The Host—haven't been quite up to par, but it's easy to imagine this film being a success with the right script and star, and Clive Owen definitely fulfills the latter requirement.

Owen will next be seen in Luc Besson's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, another sci-fi outing and hopeful mainstream crossover. Based on the acclaimed French sci-fi comic Valerian and Laureline, the film will star Dane DeHaan as Valerian, Cara Delevingne as Laureline, and Ethan Hawke and Rihanna in undisclosed roles.
