New Batman v Superman Prequel Comic Shows More Details of DC’s Cinematic Universe
Batman v Superman's marketing campaign seems to have hit full swing, as action figures, tee shirts, and TV spots are being promoted at what seems like every turn. Many of these promotions have offered a deeper look into the world of Batman v Superman, such as the Knightmare Batman action figure that went on display at New York Comic-Con in late 2015. Now another promo in the form of a prequel comic has granted fans an even better look at DC's Cinematic Universe and specifically Ben Affleck's Batman.

This comic can apparently be obtained through the Blippar app, but only when scanning one of the new special Batman v Superman Dr. Peppers. There are five different chapters, but only the first has seemed to make it's way online. This first chapter to the movie tie-in shows Batman taking down the villain Firefly, but not before some of his cronies take the time to gossip about the Caped Crusader of Gotham. Apparently, many of the criminals don't think that he could be a single person - that there has to be a team of Batmen - but this particular henchmen knows better. Likewise, the two thugs both know that Batman has apparently stepped up his game considerably after the Metropolis incident with Superman and Zod.

When Batman shows up to stop Firefly and his team, it's interesting that he talks to them while dishing out the beating. His statements remind one of Kevin Conroy's portrayal from the widely popular Batman: The Animated Series. Hopefully this trait will be included in Affleck's iteration in the film itself.

Equally as interesting is that Batman doesn't kill Firefly and his crew, but rounds them up for the cops to find later. There has been speculation that the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman could break his no-kill rule based on a statement made by producer Charles Roven about Affleck's Batman being "judge, jury, and executioner." Hopefully he'll follow the pattern set in this prequel comic and be "judge, jury, and executioner" in a Frank Miller 'The Dark Knight Returns' kind of way and not in a 'The Punisher' kind of way.

The best part of the prequel comic is no doubt the ending, though, which shows Lex Luthor monitoring the Dark Knight through a security camera. There's been comments from the cast and crew that seem to imply that Lex could play the same role that he does in Brian Azzarello's comic series 'Lex Luthor: Man of Steel,' in which he supplies Bruce Wayne with kryptonite and helps fuel his doubts about Superman.

Of course, this comic helps to set the stage for Batman v Superman in a very big way, as it clues fans in to the fact that Lex has already taken a very special interest in Gotham's protector and has been monitoring him personally. Eisenberg is a phenomenal actor and he has the chance to bring a completely new take on the cinematic Luthor to life. It'll be exciting to see how he factors in to everything come March and just how involved he'll be in this titanic face off.

Those who want to see the first chapter of the comic can do so here. For the others, they'll have to pick up one of the new Batman v Superman Dr. Pepper's to see for themselves!
