Updated: A New Battlestar Galactica Movie Just Moved One Step Closer to Reality
< >
While many (myself included) adore the original 1970's version of the franchise, it wasn't until the Battlestar Galactica TV show emerged in the mid-2000's that it gained cult status. Since then, legions of fans have flocked to the franchise, and even a distinctly unsatisfying ending to the aforementioned series hasn't done anything to dampen our desire to see more.

For some time now, a Battlestar feature film has been the subject of years of painful ups and downs. At one point, everything seemed to be going swimmingly with Bryan Singer taking on the movie as something of a passion project. But Singer has since seen his time taken up with Fox's X-Men Universe, and has subsequently revealed he'll be staying on with Fox for their upcoming 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea reboot. The lack of news has been hard to take for fans of the franchise, but it looks like there may finally be cause for optimism.

Tracking Board has reported that Universal Pictures have made moves to get the ball rolling on a Battlestar movie, hiring Michael De Luca as the project's Producer. De Luca has a strong track record with the likes of The Social Network and Moneyball to his name, and his appointment will hopefully see some real progress on the Battlestar project in the coming months.

UPDATE - 02/18/16 02:41 pm

It is now being reported that Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark of Bluegrass Films are joining De Luca on the project. Bluegrass Films are behind projects such as Ted and Ted 2, as well as Battleship and Kill the Messenger. This looks like it's gathering some serious steam, people!

While there's no news on whether Singer will still direct, the report does claim that, at the very least, he'll be on board to oversee the project as Executive Director. Jack Paglen of Transcendence penned the latest version of a script, but as of yet no details on plot have been revealed.

I think we can all agree that this news deserves a great big "So Say We All"
