Has Jason Todd Been Cast in the DCEU?
We already knew that Jason Todd would play a large role in Batman and Joker's backstory in the DCEU, but he may have a larger onscreen role than we thought. A Twitter account dedicated to DCEU rumors (and styling itself as the Daily Planet), has claimed that Kingsman star Taron Egerton is the "favorite" to play the Jason Todd iteration of Robin in the DCEU.
The account hasn't been confirmed to be official in any way, so we have no idea whether this is true, but we wouldn't be surprised if it were. Jason Todd has already been heavily teased in the DCEU, as his suit was seen in the Batman v Superman trailer with Joker graffiti written all over it, a clear reference to the classic Batman comic A Death in the Family. In the comics, Joker brutally kills Jason Todd by beating him half to death and blowing him up, which provokes Batman's enmity and sends him to a very dark place, which makes sense, considering where we find Batman at the beginning of Batman v Superman.
We assumed that this meant Jason Todd would appear in the DCEU, probably as a cameo appearance. But if they're casting Egerton, whose career is seriously on the rise, then it is probably a substantive role. If this is true, it's pretty much too late to be casting for Suicide Squad, so we can only assume that he is being cast for the 2018 Batman movie. We'll probably still only see Jason Todd in flashbacks, but if Egerton is cast, there's a higher chance that The Batman could be a prequel to Batman v Superman, and possibly an adaptation of Death in the Family.
