Are We Not Getting a Punisher Netflix Series After All?
Just last month, reports were surfacing that Netflix was adding a Punisher solo series to their Marvel slate to follow up the character's introduction in season 2 of Daredevil. We pretty much assumed that the reports were true because Punisher is a very popular character, his gritty style fits in better on Netflix than in Marvel's movies, and Jon Bernthal's version of the character, even though he hasn't premiered yet, is already beloved. But it looks like we may have jumped the gun, because the head of Marvel's TV division, Jeph Loeb, claims that a Punisher series is not in the works. At least not now.

According to Digital Spy, here's what Loeb had to say about a Punisher spinoff:

Opening quote
"I think that's something that people are speculating on, as opposed to something that's actually happening. It's certainly our hope that any of our characters will be embraced and that people want to see more of them."
Closing quote

Is Loeb just being coy here? That's certainly a possibility. He could be holding off on any announcement about a Punisher series until after Daredevil's second season, so as not to overshadow the show he's currently in the process of promoting. Or maybe there really is no Punisher series on the way, and the initial reports were wrong. Whatever the case, we think it's highly unlikely that Daredevil season 2 will be the last we'll ever see of Bernthal's Punisher.
