Rumor: Has Marvel Cast a Game of Thrones Star as Iron Fist?
Word has it that Marvel has already cast an actor in the role of Danny Rand aka Iron Fist, the last remaining Defender to be revealed to the public. According to a new report from That Hashtag Show, Marvel and Netflix have cast Finn Jones, best known for playing Loras Tyrell on Game of Thrones, as the other Hero for Hire.

We've all been waiting to hear news on the Danny Rand casting, especially since Mike Colter recently confirmed that the actor had already been cast:

Opening quote
"The actor has been cast, but he's in a basement somewhere," Colter said last month. "When the time is right, they'll let him up and tell him where he is. I am [excited]... Whether I'm in [his show], I don't know, but there's The Defenders."
Closing quote

The report that Finn Jones landed the role supposedly comes from the same source that first broke the news of Natalia Cordova-Buckley playing Slingshot on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which was recently confirmed by Marvel. That being said, this is definitely still a rumor rather than a confirmation, so we should take this report with a grain of salt.

If this rumor is true, however, Finn Jones seems like a great choice. He has proven himself more than capable in his role on Game of Thrones, but like the other Defenders, is relatively unknown enough that he can embody the role without too much baggage. Many were hoping that Marvel would cast an Asian actor as Iron Fist, particularly because he is highly trained in martial arts, but while more representation in superhero culture is always a good thing, that might have actually been counterproductive. Marvel should certainly cast more Asian-American actors, and non-white actors in general, but casting an Asian actor for a martial artist role of all things would be somewhat stereotypical.

Daredevil season two will start streaming on Netflix on March 18, while Luke Cage will premiere later this year (possibly with an appearance from Danny Rand, depending on whether the Heroes for Hire is part of the plot). Iron Fist will then get his own solo show, followed by a Defenders miniseries, release dates pending.
