Hayley Atwell Says the Agent Carter Finale Leaves Room for Season 3
Agent Carter's season finale airs tonight, just like last year, there's no official word on whether there will be another season. The ratings have been low, but the critical acclaim has stayed strong and steady throughout the second season, so it's still a complete toss-up. According to star Hayley Atwell, tonight's ending will be a true "Hollywood ending" in the sense that it will provide enough closure to serve as the series finale, but will still have enough of a "cliffhanger" to set up a potential third season.
Agent Carter has some of the lowest ratings on ABC, scoring only a .82 rating with the 18-49 demographic, which is lower than the already-canceled Blood and Oil and only slightly higher than Galavant, which is considered to be all but canceled at this point. As of now, Agent Carter is considered to be "likely to be canceled," by TV by the Numbers, but we're still crossing our fingers that it will hold on for another season. It is Marvel, after all, and this time last year, it didn't seem likely that it would even get a second season.
Either way, we're guaranteed to see the lovely and talented Hayley Atwell on our screens next year, as she has just signed onto a starring role for the ABC drama Conviction, in which she will play the daughter of a former president who investigates crime convictions that may be wrongful. But that doesn't necessarily signify a death knell for Agent Carter, as Atwell assures fans that if Agent Carter is renewed, they will work around her schedule.
Agent Carter's second season finale, "Hollywood Ending" airs tonight at 9pm ET on ABC.
