What Spider-Man's Brief Trailer Appearance Tells Us About Captain America: Civil War
The second trailer for Captain America: Civil War finally came out today, and it gave us our first, ever-so-brief glimpse of the MCU version of Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland:

Spider-Man

His cameo only lasted for a few seconds, but those few seconds were surprisingly revealing. On its face, the fact that Spider-Man takes Captain America's shield away from him implies that he has joined Team Iron Man, at least by the time that big superhero showdown happens. There have been persistent rumors that Spider-Man is on Tony's side in this fight, but this might serve as our official confirmation.

This might also indicate that Spider-Man will follow a similar trajectory as he does in the comics. In the Civil War crossover event, Spider-Man is initially on the pro-registration side, going so far as to reveal his secret identity in order to show his support for transparency among superpowered humans. But then, after discovering that Iron Man is planning some disturbing human rights violations for the superheroes who fail to register, he joins Team Cap's anti-registration efforts.

We hope that ultimately, Spider-Man switches to Team Cap, since we already love the character and this would make him much more sympathetic, but we're really curious to see whether he reveals his secret identity. If Peter Parker is already known to be Spider-Man by the time the solo movie comes out, that would mark the first time we've ever seen Spider-Man without a secret identity, which would help to distinguish this version from the million other Peter Parkers we've seen in the last decade or so.
