Will Star Wars Inspire a Battlestar Galactica Re-Launch?
Hollywood is all about reboots lately (even more than usual). And with the success of hugely successful revivals like Jurassic World, X-Files, and, of course, The Force Awakens, many more reboots of classic sci-fi properties may be in the works, including one of my personal favorites: Battlestar Galactica.

At Wonder Con this afternoon, actor and Battlestar superfan Richard Hatch, who played Captain Apollo in the original series and appeared as Tom Zarek in the 2004 re-imagining, stated that Universal has been trying to make another Battlestar movie for the last ten years, but was unable to get it off the ground. But now, with the success of The Force Awakens, the prospect is becoming more attractive to the studio, and Hatch claims that the ball is finally rolling at Universal.

"Their plans are not just to make a movie, but to re-launch a franchise," said Hatch.

We don't know any specific plans for the (second) re-imagining yet, although Hatch did state that Academy Award-nominated producer Michael De Luca is involved with the project. De Luca is responsible for acclaimed films like The Social Network and Captain Phillips (and the Fifty Shades of Grey series, but we won't talk about that), and now he's reportedly "on board to try to make a Battlestar movie."

Personally, I would much rather see another series, possibly an X-Files style revival, than a film. But since Universal is becoming interested in a franchise, another TV show is a possibility, maybe even one based on Bryan Singer's aborted reboot that released amazing concept art over a decade ago.

"This concept art has been around for ten years," said Aggressive Comix's Mary Anne Butler, "and it's only now that they're starting to look at it again and say, 'This is actually happening, guys.'"
