First Reactions to Captain America: Civil War say It's the Best Marvel Movie Yet
2016 has been dubbed the year of the superhero showdowns, with Batman v Superman kicking off the DCEU in earnest and Captain America: Civil War pitting every just about every MCU character you can remember against each other. The first of those showdowns has struggled to live up to its lofty expectations, bringing in a solid haul but receiving wide-ranging condemnation from critics. The questions have now turned to whether or not Marvel can avoid the overstuffed issues its rival blockbuster has suffered from, and the after the studio held preview screenings across the US last night, the early word is very, very good.
In fact, looking at social media, it's hard to find a bad word being said about the Russo Brothers' latest effort.
Just saw Captain America Civil War and it's amazing. The closest thing I've seen to a comic book come to life, including the first Avengers— Johnny Brayson (@JohnnyBrayson) April 9, 2016
At 8pm, WINTER SOLDIER was my favorite MCU film.— Kevin McCarthy (@KevinMcCarthyTV) April 9, 2016
Roughly 2.5 hours later, CIVIL WAR is now #1.
Action masterpiece. SPIDER-MAN!!!#NerdTears
So, the movie might be good, but what about the new additions to the MCU, namely the third iteration of Spider-Man and the first to reside within the MCU?

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is a Barry Bonds steroids hitting home-run by Marvel & Russo Brothers. And I LOVED Spider-Man in the film. LOVED.— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) April 9, 2016
It's important to remember that, unlike some early screenings that are provided for fans, these are press and industry professionals reacting here. A few weeks ago, word on the street had been that Disney had never seen such an overwhelmingly positive reaction to a test screening as when they presented Civil War to test audiences. And, with Batman v Superman struggling to win over fans and critics alike, Marvel has clearly seen an opportunity to deal another blow to their rivals by getting some early buzz out about their own superhero showdown.
Full reviews will be released for the movie on Monday, but it looks like there is absolutely nothing for Marvel fans to worry about. Even that airport scene, which on the face of it looked rather silly in the trailers, is being touted as the greatest comicbook movie action scene of all time.
Captain America: Civil War is released on May 6th 2016
