Rakhee Thakrar Responds to Rumors About Being the New Doctor Who Companion
Jenna Louise Coleman has been a largely beloved part of Doctor Who for the past few years. However, the show saw the departure of Clara Oswald at the end of series 9, and ever since, Whovians have been dying to catch wind of who the Doctor's next companion will be.

Peter Capaldi, the 12th Doctor, has commented in the past that the actress playing the next companion has indeed been selected. However, it was also made clear that they were keeping the casting under wraps.

Then a rumor came up that British soap opera star, Rakhee Thakrar of EastEnders, may be the next companion, and now, Thakrar has responded to those rumors in an interview with Leicester Mercury More magazine. Here's what she had to say when asked:

Opening quote
My way of looking at everything is just be here and see what happens. There's such a vast range of projects and roles, that I'm open to see what comes.
Closing quote

Her answer definitely seems a bit ambiguous, but at the same time saying "we'll see what happens" kind of makes it seem like she wasn't definitively cast, as Capaldi had intimated beforehand. Then again, if she's under an NDA, then who knows.

Rakhee Thakrar would definitely be an interesting addition to the cast if she really is the new companion, however. Doctor Who is known for its amazing diversity, so it'd definitely be in keeping with their casting tendencies to bring in an Indian actress like Thakrar.

Season 10 has been put off until 2017, however, and the next episode will be the the 2016 Christmas special. News will probably drop before then, however, concerning who the new companion really is, but until then, fans will just have to speculate.
