Report: Nathan Fillion Cameos in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Marvel Superhero
Minor spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 follow!
Is Nathan Fillion adding another geek movie to his resume? According to a new report, the Firefly fan favorite is appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Marvel superhero Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man.
The above photos, provided to Comicbook.com, were taken in Cartersville, Georgia, near where Guardians is currently filming. They show Fillion's face on several movie posters outside of a theater that is showing a "Simon Williams film festival," which refers to the Marvel superhero Wonder Man, who retired from the superhero business to pursue a career in acting. It isn't officially confirmed, but that is most definitely Fillion's face on the "Oh, Rebecca" poster, and there's no real movie with that name. Plus, Fillion has a close relationship with director James Gunn (he already had a voice cameo in the first Guardians movie), and Gunn said he would love to have him back.
"I would love to put Nathan in GotG2 if it could work out," Gunn said in a Facebook Q&A last year. "He's one of my very good friends and we love working together."
To be fair, even if this is true, there's no evidence that he will actually show up in the movie to help the Guardians fight intergalactic threats. But it would be a fun Easter egg, and it's possible that he'll make a brief appearance, maybe in a fake Simon Williams movie about space cowboys.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens on May 5, 2017.
