Superman Prequel Series "Krypton" Officially Given Pilot Order at Syfy
Krypton has been inching its way towards a greenlight at Syfy for months, and now the network has finally given in. The Superman prequel series will move forward with a pilot, in order to ascertain whether it will be ordered to series.

Here's the official synopsis of the show:
Opening quote
"[Krypton] will follow Superman's grandfather – whose House of El was ostracized and shamed - as he fights to redeem his family's honor and save his beloved world from chaos."
Closing quote

The series was created by David S. Goyer, who has worked on the Dark Knight series as well as Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, along with Once Upon a Time's Ian Goldberg, with both serving as executive producers, and Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders, Sherlock) set to direct. Goyer has previously stated that the series will explore unused ideas from the Man of Steel Kryptonian opening sequence, and will take place approximately 200 years before the events of the film.

Superman hasn't had an easy time of it lately, especially after Batman v Superman, but he's a reliable property, so this doesn't come as too much of a surprise. However, when and if the show actually airs, I doubt that Superman will be enough of a draw for most DC fans when he's definitely not going to be in it, and unlike Supergirl, the show won't follow another well-known hero. Jor-El presumably has a chance of showing up, but that's about it so far. But still, everyone sounds very excited about a show with the name "Superman" distantly attached to it:

Opening quote
"Krypton is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe," said Bill McGoldrick, Executive Vice President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment in a press release (via Comicbook.com). "In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman's home to show how the timeless legend began."
