Captain America: Civil War Writers Say They Might Resolve Agent Carter Cliffhangers in a One-Shot

Spoilers for the MCU follow!

Things aren't looking too good for Agent Carter. Not only did Peggy die offscreen in Captain America: Civil War (boo-hoo), but the chances for an Agent Carter renewal are getting slimmer by the minute. Especially now that Marvel's Most Wanted is probably moving forward, and will air during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s hiatus, Peggy's show is likely doomed, with TV By the Numbers predicting a 10% chance of renewal as of yesterday.

But if it is cancelled, then what will happen to all of those cliffhangers? The second season finale not only left the door open for season three, it left us hanging on several huge plot points, and it would be a shame if we never got to see how they play out. In a new interview with IGN, Captain America: Civil War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely addressed the possibility of wrapping up her storylines in another short:

Opening quote
"Should it arise, we'd be delighted," said Markus.

"There's a couple loose threads we'd like to address," said McFeely.
Closing quote

It's difficult to tell how serious they are about this, since it's posed as a hypothetical, so they could just be expressing their desire to write the character again. But there's a possibility that this could happen, especially since Agent Carter fans will be upset if we never get to know certain details about Peggy's fate. (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. showed her obituary—which says she married "later in life"—without revealing whether she married Agent Sousa, for example, which feels like a purposeful omission.) Plus, the one-shots are most famous for launching Agent Carter, so it would be fitting to bring Peggy back to them if they really do return for Infinity War.
