A Fan Favorite Character Leaves Legends of Tomorrow - But Will Live on in the Flarrowverse
Huge spoilers for Legends of Tomorrow ahead!
Last night, Greg Berlanti made good on his promise to change the roster of the team before next season, and killed off Leonard Snart, aka Captain Cold, aka one of the best characters on the show (maybe the best character). Luckily, we haven't seen the last of Wentworth Miller in the Flarrowverse, as he will continue to show up on the CW shows.
"We always knew that he wouldn't be a permanent member of The Waverider," Greg Berlanti told Deadline. "We also knew we loved him on the show and all the shows, Flash as well."
This isn't just an unofficial arrangement; apparently his contract was not just tied to Legends of Tomorrow, but essentially made him a regular in the Flarrowverse. So he will split his time between the different shows, for now LOT and The Flash, although I would imagine there's always a possibility for him to show up on Arrow (and now Supergirl!) as well.
"The first contract [was] not applicable to just one show," Berlanti said. "In success we hope to continue with other characters finding their way across all the shows."
Although Captain Cold is dead in the present timeline, time travel is a built-in aspect of both LOT and The Flash, so it would be easy for him to show up as a past version of himself (or his counterpart from another Earth on The Flash). Two more series regulars will be added next season to LOT in his stead, one male and one female, and Berlanti insists that the show will take a sort of anthology format.
"Every year for this show people should expect a new adventure," said Berlanti. "There will be new teammates, a new big bad. Mixing and matching things is part of the fun of the show."
