Will the X-Force Movie Feature a Female Wolverine?
An era in the X-Men film universe is soon coming to a close. Hugh Jackman is hanging up his claws after next year's still-untitled third Wolverine solo film, meaning that the X-Men's most bankable character is without an actor. It's a given that Fox will re-cast Wolverine, but is there a chance that the next Wolverine we see on screen won't even be Logan, but a different character entirely?
Apparently, X-Men movie superproducer Bryan Singer has pitched the idea of a female Wolverine to Fox for the upcoming X-Force film, telling Fandango in an interview that he originally pitched X-Force with a female version of Wolverine, but didn't say whether or not his idea was accepted. He did disclose, however, that the X-Force movie is already in the works, with Simon Kinberg currently working on the script.
So who could this female Wolverine be, if she makes it into the movie? The most-likely nominee is X-23, the current Wolverine in Marvel Comics continuity following the death of the original, she is a clone of Logan and has the same powers as him, with two notable differences: She only has two adamantium claws on her hands, and she also has one on each foot; and her entire skeleton is not coated in the indestructible metal.
The inclusion of X-23 would be a nice change of pace, considering that the Wolverine we know and love has appeared in all six X-Men movies so far, plus his solo films, and has been played by Jackman every time. So if the X-Force movie wants to give us a new female Wolverine, we say go for it. Besides, we kinda want to see that toe claw in action.
