Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Character Names and Details Leaked
< >
The first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prompted more questions than answers, with a few key mysteries rising above the rest. The scene with that mysterious cloaked figure kneeling before that equally mysterious white tube is undoubtedly Rogue One's biggest talking point, and while we know it doesn't involve Snoke, there are still a ton of incredibly detailed fan theories out there. But, another of the trailer's big mysteries is the identity of Ben Mendelsohn's character, seen a number of times in the early footage draped in white and looking every bit the Imperial bad-ass. As is often the way with these movies, mysteries don't remain a mystery for long and the identity of Mendelsohn's now appears to be no exception to that rule, because a number of Rogue One's official character details have just been revealed.

Minor Spoilers for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story follow

The details have been leaked from the movie's upcoming Visual Dictionary, which isn't even scheduled for release until 2017. As well as the identity of Mendelsohn's character, the leak also reveals information about a number of the rebel characters as well.

Opening quote
This team of "heroes of the Rebel Alliance" is sent to steal the plans of the First Death Star:
Felicity Jones plays Jyn Erso, a gifted soldier and warrior.
Diego Luna plays Captain Cassian Andor, an officer in the Rebel Alliance
Jiang Wen plays Baze, a freelance assassin
Alan Tudyk plays the CGI character K-250, an Enforcer Droid and evidently an imperial model, but teams up with the rebels.
Riz Ahmed plays Bodhi, a rebel soldier.
Pao, an alien who is described as a "fierce warrior".
Donnie Yen plays Chirrut, a spiritual warrior.
Bistan, another alien who is described as a "fierce warrior".
And then on the Imperial page:
Ben Mendelssohn as Director Krennic, the military director of the Empire, to defend the Galactic Empire against the Rebels mission to steal the Death Star plans.
Closing quote

So, it looks as though Mendelsohn isn't a Grand Admiral as we all once thought, but he's certainly a high ranking military officer. The description says he's assigned to dealing with the Rebel mission to steal the Death Star plans, but that may be slightly misleading. After all, if the Empire knew the Rebels planned to steal the plans to the Death Star, you can bet your house that the whole Star Wars saga would have turned out very differently. It's more likely that Krennic's rank sees him being tasked with the growing incursions from Rebel fighters and therefore he will eventually cross paths with Jyn Erso's team, but either way, it looks like Krennic will Rogue One's big Imperial bad. Will he have any help from a man named Vader, though?

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is released in theaters on December 16th 2016.
