The Flash Season 3: Tom Cavanagh's Harrison Wells Will Be Back as a Series Regular
Spoilers for The Flash season 2 finale ahead!
The Flash said goodbye to several characters in its game-changing finale, which changed the entire timeline of the show as we know it. But where there is a built-in way for John Wesley Shipp to return to the Flarrowverse in some form, Harrison Wells seemed to say a more final farewell. But does that mean Tom Cavanagh is leaving the show altogether?
According to a new report, we'll still be seeing some version of Harrison Wells next season. When asked whether "some kind of" Harrison Wells would return, EW's Spoiler Room said that while plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, they can confirm that "Tom Cavanagh will be back as a series regular in season 3."
But how is that possible? According to EW, the Earth-1 Wells may return as a result of all the timeline craziness from the finale:
"Consider this: If the show does indeed move forward with Flashpoint, then the Reverse-Flash never killed Earth-1 Harrison Wells and his wife, meaning we could see the original Wells next season. Maybe. Hopefully."
Flashpoint refers to a crossover event in DC comics in which Barry Allen's mother was never killed, as will be the cast next season. In this altered timeline, many of the greatest heroes are villains and vice versa; The Justice League and Superman don't exist, Batman is Thomas Wayne, Aquaman is at war with Wonder Woman, and the greatest hero of Central City is Captain Cold.
The Justice League will probably be left out of the proceedings, since DC is determined to keep their TV universes separate, which also leaves out Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Batman. But we can count on seeing Harrison Wells again, and I would guess that some version of the Captain Cold development will happen, since Wentworth Miller is still contracted for The Flash.
