Stephen Amell Says Arrow's Season 5 Villain Will Be a Callback to Season 1
The season 4 finale of Arrow left many fans in a state of despair and bewilderment, but if you've not been completely driven away from the show, it might soon be time to start looking ahead to what's in store for season 5. Stephen Amell took time off from his TMNT press tour to attend Wizard World Philadelphia last weekend, and during his panel he dropped another teaser on who it is that Team Arrow will be facing off against this Fall.

Over recent weeks, we've heard reports that season 5 will play out like a DC Comics version of Daredevil vs Punisher, with a more grounded villain who Stephen Amell has already revealed doesn't have any superpowers.

That's all well and good, but will it be enough to win over the fans who believe the show has lost its way? Well, if fans want the show to return to what it does best, Amell's latest comments might give us all cause for hope.

Opening quote
"Our villain is going to be in a lot of ways a callback to season 1. And that's something that you can do when you're in season 5. I think that the villain that we have coming in is really going to ground the show and take us back to some of the elements that we had in the earlier days before we introduced so many fantastical elements to the Arrowverse."
Closing quote

It's not a return of Manu Bennett's Deathstroke, but this certainly seems to be exactly what the doctor ordered for a show that has been ailing for some time now. Arrow's first two seasons have remained its pinnacle in terms of storytelling, so a return to the basics we saw in those arcs would certainly be a welcome one for many viewers.
