Michael Biehn Says Alien 5 Is Still Happening, Suggests Jennifer Lawrence for Newt
Alien: Covenant is coming our way next year, but Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 seems more up in the air than ever. Now, Aliens actor Michael Biehn, who plays fan favorite Hicks, has publicly stated that he believes the movie is still happening, and threw out a huge name as a suggestion for the older version of Newt.

While speaking to Forbes, Biehn recalled that he originally auditioned to play a villain in Chappie, which Aliens co-star Sigourney Weaver ultimately starred in, and recalled the initial stages of Alien 5:

Opening quote
"[Sigourney Weaver] is doing [Blomkamp's] movie, Chappie, and he pitches her an idea for another movie in the Alien franchise, which I thought was dead and gone as she probably did too as well as Fox. He tweeted out some pictures of me, he said he's going take the third and fourth film and act like they never happened and things blew up. It looked like it was all go and then Ridley Scott decided that he was going to do a second and third film in the Prometheus series."

But even now that the film was sidelined, Biehn is convinced that it's still going to happen, especially since Sigourney Weaver is so enthusiastic about the prospect:

Opening quote
"...But Sigourney says they're still doing their project. I think it would be very embarrassing to Fox if they don't give Sigourney the movie that she really wants to go out on. I don't know when it's going to happen but I know it's going to happen and I know I'm going to be in it and there's going to be a new Newt, she's going to be about 26 or 27 and looks a lot like Jennifer Lawrence to me but I don't know. Maybe there'll be a passing of whatever and then the franchise can move on so they can make more money because that's what it's all about."
Closing quote

The movie seems to be in development hell right now, but still, everyone involved seems fairly confident that it will happen eventually. Weaver has stated that the movie will "give Ripley an ending" and teases that it will likely happen once she and Blomkamp have finished their current projects (the Avatar sequels and The Gone World adaptation, respectively). It's still pretty speculative right now, but there's reason to have hope.

The Jennifer Lawrence comment is an entirely different story. While Blomkamp has teased that there will be an older version of Newt played by an up-and-coming actress who will essentially take over the franchise from Weaver, it seems dubious that it would be someone as famous as Lawrence. She is already associated with a sci-fi blockbuster franchise, and is just generally one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood right now. Actresses like Lawrence, Daisy Ridley, or Felicity Jones would undoubtedly be great for the role, but most likely wouldn't be considered, since relative unknowns are generally better for launching a franchise.
